R12.1.2 Project Forecasting

Thursday, August 5th, 2010 by Darren Farr

For those of you that are current Oracle Project Management users, you may be aware of some of the issues with Project Forecasting. Current business issues include:

  • Inability to plan a project’s forecast using fiscal calendar periods
  • Differences between actual and planned amounts automatically re-spread over the remaining periods based on the spread curve attached to the financial plan

To address these issues Project Forecasting functionality has been improved in R12.1.2; this blog describes the new forecasting functionality.

The new features include:

  • Ability to generate forecasts based on Fiscal Calendar
  • Generate plan periods based on the general ledger fiscal calendar
  • Ability to copy planned ETC from the latest baseline workplan and to optionally update the future period spread manually.
  • When using this new forecasting functionality, any differences between forecast and actual costs in the period are not automatically spread over the remaining future periods.

R12.1.2 Forecast Flow

  1. Define GL “Fiscal” Calendar
  2. Create Project Workplan
  3. Create Project Budget
  4. Generate Baseline Forecast
  5. Enter, collect & apply actual costs
  6. Generate New Forecast
  7. Manually adjust forecast amounts
  8. Submit for Approval

Configuration Requirements

  • It applies to financial plan types set up as forecast cost only
  • Time Phasing is enabled in the Plan Settings page
  • Task Level Selection enabled on the Edit Planning Options Page
  • Financial Plan or Work Plan Resource is selected as the ETC sources in the edit planning option
  • Change Document and Open Commitment are not to be enabled

R12.1.2 – User Interface Enhancements

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 by Barry Goodsell

Further to my previous article (E-Business Suite R12.1.2 now available) I would like to show you some of the improvements that have been made to the User Interface in R12.1.2. I say “User Interface”, as that is the term which I am used to using, but to be fashionable, the term is now “User Experience”, shortened to “UX”.

General UI Improvements

Favorites

As soon as you log in to R12.1.2 you will spot something new near the top of the screen, a “Favorites” drop-down menu.

If I add a few favourites this is what it looks like when you click on it:

This new drop-down is available on all web-based screens, which will make navigating to your most used screens that bit quicker.

Navigator

Once you have opened a web screen, another drop-down appears to the left of the Favorites drop-down.

The Navigator shows you all the Responsibilities and related Menus as a drop-down menu. Here you can see I am in the Employee Self Service Personal Actions screen, and I am using the Navigator to select the Reporting Pack List screen from the Projects SU Repsonsibility:

E-Business Suite Release 12.1.2 now available

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009 by Barry Goodsell

Last week Oracle announced E-Business Suite Release 12.1.2, also known as “12.1 RUP 2″, or Patch 7303033. This release update pack (RUP) combines error corrections, statutory/regulatory updates, and functionality enhancements into a consolidated, suite-wide patch set.  This release is a maintenance pack and can only be installed on top of an existing EBS 12.1 environment.

The following sections describe the new features to R12.1.2 that are of particluar interest to Projected Consulting’s clients and partners. Note that there are no new features specific to Project Costing and Project Billing.

Oracle Project Foundation

Enhanced Project List Page

The Project List page is often the main hub that users interact with when accessing Oracle Projects. In an effort to make this page more informative and streamline access to common functions, several enhancements have been added to the Project List page.

Main Project List Region

The following enhancements apply to the main region of the project list page:

  • To improve efficiencies and usability, the Action button available in the Project Home Page is now also available in the project list. Users are no longer required to drill down before they can execute an action against a selected project.
  • To provide easier access to commonly used reporting values, Quarter to Date and Year to Date values are now available as attributes displayed in the list.

Worklist and Notifications Region

A new Worklist and Notification region is available on the Project List page. The new region displays worklist items and notifications assigned to the user across all projects for which the user has an active role. Productivity is increased as users are no longer required to drill down into individual projects to retrieve notifications and review items that need attention.

Report Views Region

A new Report Views region allows users to quickly access commonly used reports and queries. Users first create and save the reports using the Alternative Search page. All saved reports are then available for reuse and can be retrieved directly from the project list page. This feature not only provides quicker access to data but also saves time by allowing users to save queries rather than redefining them each time they need to view the results.

Bookmarks Region

A new Bookmark region allows users to streamline retrieval of project-related items they commonly need to access. Once users select an item to bookmark, the item appears in the bookmark list until the user removes it. The list of bookmarks is specific to each user based on the items they choose to bookmark. The bookmark region is not available on all pages.
