Creating an All Other Values Row in Oracle BI

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 by James Walsh

In a recent training session for Oracle 10g, requests were used to present information for the “Top N” most expensive projects. During the session a delegate asked whether it was possible to present a row in the table that shows the value of all the other projects. The change would result in information being presented as shown in the table below, with the row highlighted in yellow being a summary of all the other records not in the Top N:

Fiscal Year Project Number Project Name Cost
2007 ATZ Services ATZ Services
£ 55,018
2007 PC201 Percent Complete – Operations 26,359
2007 FP201 Fixed Price – Operations 19,541
2007 CS419 Redwood City 419 Construction 18,000
2007 Bldg Renovation Bldg Renovation 13,314
2007 AD201 Administrative 11,340
2007 100123 New Store 100123 8,153
2007 B200 Building 200 Construction 4,858
2007 Corp Srvcs Corporate Services 4,793
2007 SS2349 Redwood City Selection 1,200
2007 All Other Projects All Other Projects ######
Total Cost 162,574

Two methods to achieve the result will be described in this article, these methods can also be used with Oracle BI 11g. The first method is slightly easier to implement as all the work is done in a single request. However this method is not ideal for a large volume of rows that is to be ranked.

Creating a Clear Prompts button

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 by James Walsh

During a training session I demonstrated a technique used to present users with a Clear Prompts button. This article will provide the information to replicate the same feature in your dashboard development.

This example uses a dashboard prompt with some Oracle BI Applications sample data. The dashboard prompt has been setup to display the Fiscal Year with a default value of 2012 and Operating Unit Organization Name of Vision Operations.

Informatica Upgrade 8.6.1 to 9.0.1

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012 by Robin Harris

As a follow up to my last blog post on Informatica no longer supporting 8.6.1, I have completed a test upgrade on one of our internal development systems. This system is an installation of Oracle BI Applications 7.9.6.2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 (64-bit) with the data warehouse and repositories being stored in an Oracle 11.1.0.6 database.

In case of any doubt Informatica 9.0.1 is now certified with BI Applications 7.9.6.0, 7.9.6.1 and 7.9.6.2 and 7.9.6.3. Details can be found in the ‘System Requirements and Support Platforms for Oracle Business Intelligence Applications version 7.9.6, Rev. N’ which was released in December 2011.

The upgrade ran smoothly and quite painlessly and this post will breifly cover the steps I took to perform the upgrade.

Informatica Corporation De-support Informatica 8.x

Monday, April 23rd, 2012 by Robin Harris

Many of our customers are not aware that Informatica Corporation have desupported Informatica 8.x which was originally bundled with BI Applications 7.9.6.2 for OBIEE 10g.

In order to be fully supported it is advised to upgrade to Informatica 9.0.1 Hotfix 2. Oracle support will do their best to assist with any ETL issues however if they need to raise the issue with Informatica support then it will be required to reproduce the issue on a supported version.

Please see note 1346738.1 on My Oracle Support for details or contact Projected Consulting (via the conact us link at the top of our site) to discuss how we can assist with your upgrade.
