R12.1.2 – User Interface Enhancements

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 by Barry Goodsell

Further to my previous article (E-Business Suite R12.1.2 now available) I would like to show you some of the improvements that have been made to the User Interface in R12.1.2. I say “User Interface”, as that is the term which I am used to using, but to be fashionable, the term is now “User Experience”, shortened to “UX”.

General UI Improvements

Favorites

As soon as you log in to R12.1.2 you will spot something new near the top of the screen, a “Favorites” drop-down menu.

If I add a few favourites this is what it looks like when you click on it:

This new drop-down is available on all web-based screens, which will make navigating to your most used screens that bit quicker.

Navigator

Once you have opened a web screen, another drop-down appears to the left of the Favorites drop-down.

The Navigator shows you all the Responsibilities and related Menus as a drop-down menu. Here you can see I am in the Employee Self Service Personal Actions screen, and I am using the Navigator to select the Reporting Pack List screen from the Projects SU Repsonsibility:

Wanted: ‘Search Project’ in global page links

Sunday, November 15th, 2009 by Andy Coates

When navigating Oracle Projects self service pages I have come across a minor annoyance when switching between projects. For example, I may have navigated from the Project List to project number 123, gone to the Performance tab and then drilled down to the Task Overview page. What if I now want to look at project 234? My quickest options are:-

  1. Go back to the E-Business Suite ‘Home’ page using the global page links and then select the function ‘Search Project’. However, an extra step is required if I first have to select the responsibility from the left hand side of the page.
  2. Use the Project List global page link in the top right of the page. However, what if project 234 is not in my user defined ‘default’ project list view? I would then need to change the view.

In order to maximise the user experience, users need to be able to get from point A to B via the most efficient route. Both of the options above can be particularly tedious when inquiring a list of unrelated projects one after the other. For his reason, I would like to see a link to the ‘Search Project’ page in the global page links area. A minor detail I know, but I would be interested to hear if this bugs anyone else!

Personalise Project List – Columns in Alphabetical Order in R12.1.1

Thursday, August 27th, 2009 by Andy Coates

A constant annoyance of mine is that when one personalises the Project List in Oracle Projects 11i the list of available columns is not in alphabetical order. Although a minor issue, the list of available columns contains over 120 entries, so it is sometimes quite a chore to find the specific column that you are after. In release 12.1.1 the list of available columns is now alphabetised, as seen in the screenshot below.

Comparison of PSI, Performance Reporting and Project List

Monday, July 13th, 2009 by Andy Coates

Oracle recently released a rather useful bulletin on My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) that compares the various reporting mechanisms available in Oracle Projects. This includes Project Status Inquiry (PSI), Performance Reporting and the Project List. The document ID is 828564.1
